Pierce was a fascinating historical figure in Oregon politics. He was a PROHIBITIONIST. He was elected GOVERNOR OF OREGON in 1922 by the largest margin ever WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE KU KLUX KLAN... Pierce was ELECTED TO CONGRESS in 1932 in the ROOSEVELT LANDSLIDE. He was a NEW DEAL DEMOCRAT. During World War II he was involved in the ANTI-JAPANESE MOVEMENT in Oregon. An interesting feature of this card is the image of the FASCES as a symbol of our federated system (bundle of sticks used to symbolize unity--used by the Roman Empire (thus Fascism) and also by the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederation). This measures 4 3/4 inches X 2 3/4 inches. It is on hard stock card. This has typical vintage edge and corner wear. It has vertical creasing. Not mint but fine and a tough find!
